Readiness precedes motivation preceding action

mt_ignore:By Jesper Dybvad Olesen

»Make whatever you are up to real as quickly as possible.«

Readiness comes first, motivation comes second, and then action follows. We know this is the sequence in the three-step-command used at the start of any sprint: "on your mark, get set, go!"

Hearing the command 'on your mark!' you may—or may not—show you are readily available with proper skills and you are properly prepared. When you show readiness you know where you came from, you know where you are now, and you know where you want to go. Look around and observe if your fellow team members also are in perfect place in their 'lanes' and in their right 'spots'. You are only ready when you are ready for real.

After the following command—'get set'—you'll know the nature of your motivation. You'll feel highly motivated when you know what you have to do to get to where you want to go. Being in such a starting position feels exciting at a higher level and not like the previous feeling of readiness at a lower level.

Make it real

»Do it.« »Make whatever you are up to real as quickly as possible.«
So it is said in 'The Formula for Guaranteed Success' made simple by David Taylor @thenakedleader on Twitter.

It says in three steps:
1. »Know where you came from. Know where you are now. Know where you want to go.«
2. »Know what you have to do to get to where you want to go.«
3. »Do it.«

An overview makes you ready

Teamwork is like a relay in athletics in action. Everybody works past readiness. Everybody is motivated to run. You may lose your motivation when you don't know what you'll have to do next to get to where you and everybody else want to go.

If success is in danger you'll have to count on your experiences, skills, and the help of others. Maybe you only need a more solid overview, which is a sum of relevant insights.

The solution is to know where you came from and to get all the insights needed. Motivation precedes action, and if motivation is lost, get ready again to be on your mark.
